Hi Everyone, :D
I'm 16 and have been dancing for a good few years now.
I want to be able to teach when I am older, fingers crossed, following a professional career!
Anyway, I've seen a lot of "student" teachers around lately...that are only a few years older than me, i.e. 17, 18, teaching in studios around my area.
I would just like to know if anybody knows how you train as a teacher at this age or just how you go about being able to teach?
What qualifications do you need ??

Any advice or help greatly appreciated

Hmm... Probably your best course of action at this point would be to talk to your current dance instructors. See if you can volunteer your time to assist with younger classes, special events, shows/performances, etc. They may also have ideas on how to train.

In our area there are several colleges which offer professional training in dance. Many dance teachers in our area have gone through their programs or become certified through Dance Masters of America.

I'd say start by talking to your instructors and seeing what they have to say.

Please let us know what you find out. All the best!

Hi Petitedancer....it's me angel. Gabe, my brother, is 14 and actually starting last year he started to be an assistant teacher in some of the classes. Our studio usually offers that to who they think is ready once they are 14 or sometimes older i guess....it depends. So he assists in classes now and is being trained how to actually teach ... then when he's 16 he can teach certain classes if it all works out. That's what I want to do to and then it's a good job while i go to college cause the hours can work out. i'm only 10 tho so i have to wait a long time. ha ha. so talk to your studio about if they need assistant teachers.

I was 14 years old when I started to train as a dance teacher. I am 16 now and I'm still teaching. If I were you I would just ask. I would ask your dance teacher at your studio. It can't hurt to let them know your open. Good Luck.
