| I've seen people do toe stands in tap shoes on TV. My question is do toe stands take a special type of shoe? It looks like they have to wear a really flexable shoe but is there any thing else special about them? Thanks. |

In my tap class last year for recital, we had to do toe stand turns, and everyone in my class has these stiff generic tap shoes you buy. I'm not sure, but everyone had lots of trouble doing them. It's probably due to having dance 1 hour a week and we were all very out of shape, too though! Our dance teachers could do them fine!
Hope this helps a little! |

Hi, in case anyone else is interested; I found a pair of split soled tap shoes on capeziodance.com that said they "have a boxed toe for toe stands." So I'm guessing that is what is needed.
I don't see how it would be possible to do toe stands in the hard soled round toe tap shoes. |

| any serious tap dancer should know that split soul shoes are the way to go... and you cant just start doing toe stands in um right away.... you have to break them in.... boxed toe does nothing.... its supposed to help but it really doesnt matter eitherway... dont buy a cheap pair of shoes and expect them to do everything you want automaticaly.... you need to get a good pair of shoes thats gonna last you awhile... know what you need before you buy it and do some research... lastly... break in your shoes on your own time... dont try to jump in to class with new shoes!!! |

| for toe stands i prefer shoes with a box but there really isn't that much difference. with the box you just have more area to be on so it's a lot easier to stay up. |

| It really doesn't matter what kind of shoe you use but toe stand are easy once you get used to them... |
