|
|
| I am a 33 year old male who has no dance/ballet training at all. However, I have a strong desire (for some time) to learn ballet. Am I crazy? (hence my name) or do you think there is a chance I could actually learn and not make a fool of myself? I'd appreciate any advice. |

I appreciate all the positive reinforcement!
I am in the process of searching for a dance studio that has adult beginner classes. I hope I do not become overwhelmed once I start class.
----
How many hours per day does one practice? Are there any stretching techniques that I could use to help my flexibility? |

Go for it! I started when I was 28. Starting ballet *can* be overwhelming, you just need to set your perspective correctly and enjoy the process of learning and dancing.
If you live in a big city, you could take class everyday for 1 1/2 hours, but that might be lot to ask for a beginner. You don't have to take class everyday to improve though. On your off class days, you can focus on building core strength and flexibility. There aren't really any magic ballet stretches. A lot of focus goes into hamstring flexibility, but you really want to be strong and flexible in every dimension. Foot flexibility is also good, as you will be doing releve and spending a lot of time on half toe.
Feel free to pm if you want more insight or advice. |

Life is too short to have hesitations for things you want to do. So you're not crazy at all, it takes a lot of courage to admit and then adhere to your decisions even though they would seem outlandish to the rest of the world.
Good Luck! |
