hey guys! im new here! i've been reading some of the posts here and i can safely say that this place is pretty awesome and productive. soo.... welcome me :)

im 16, i live in singapore. i've been popping for 3 1/2 years now. (3years 8months or somewhere there) i'm the assistant captain of my school dance club. recently, i've been briefed to take up breakdancing for some crazy choreography my instructor is directing for a national dance competition around february next year. i have around 15+ seconds solo of breaking and popping.

unfortunately, i know almost zip about breakdancing. i've been fortunate to be taught some basics for the 6 step, baby swipes, basic baby freezes and a couple of top rocks. but thats not enough.

now the worst part is that i have a weak build. i'm more than 1.8m in height and im weak as heck. skinny, to be exact. i cant carry myself at all.

the challenge is that, i have 3months 12 days before the choreography is taugh to us. that's the amount of time i have to build myself and start getting my techniques right.

can anyone PLEASE instruct me on methods to learn the techniques and methods as quick as possible? i don't want to disgrace myself in front of my juniors who seem to be able to do more breakdancing than i can ever imagine doing. damn.

or if theres apparently not enough time for me, could some point out to some moves i could pick up that does not require brute strength?

thanks so much guys, hope to hear from ya'll!

hey,
I would recommend going to breakdance sites like bboy.org or bboyzone.com cuz they have pretty good explanations of moves.
good luck with training ^^

Hey man, sorry for the wicked late reply.

First thing you need to do is decide whether you wanna focus on power, freeze combos, or extended freezes. Once you know what you want to focus on, you can start doing exercises for them. I know a bunch of stuff for freezes, and the basics of windmill and flare exercises, and extended freezes are just hours spent in the freeze while watching tv or something. Let me know what you want more info on, and I'll do my best to help.

Oh, and as an aside, my dad's from Singapore, although I was born in New York. Good luck lah!

when you're new since you aren't going to be able to get these moves down super pat like alot of b-boys and b-girls have that have been working on them for quite a while... focus on rocking beats.. but when you hit to the music make it noticeable or big... reason being is the normal audience won't catch as many moves as a dancer would.. lemme know if that makes sense... as for building up muscle.. do hand stand push ups.. first leaning against a wall.. then when you get good enough try balancing and doing them on your own... don't go crazy though.. only do your limit then stop.. it made life alot easier for me.. bein a girl we don't naturally have the natural muscle that you guys do in your shoulders.. helped me build it quick. Let me know how it goes..
