..am i crazy?

I'm attending these classes with kids, pre-teens, and teens who are half my age or at least 18. I feel so intimidated at times. Thinking I'll never get where they are in a million years. But, I do it just because I love it. This is a side of me I hide from my parents since they don't understand or support the whole dance aspect of my life. How it makes me feel happy and alive to dance my problems away. Is the whole support thing important. I started taking Beg. Hip Hop and in 1 year moved up to Adv. Hip Hop after I got tremendous feedback at a previous FIRST dance concert I did for the studio. I also decided to take Beginning Jazz (Being the only guy in the class) and was featured in the same concert doing 2 pieces. Now, I'm going back to taking class at my college to finish my AA in english. I'm taking Beginning Ballet (not knowing what to expect) my jazz instructor says that taking ballet class will help my technique. Is that true? I hope so because it is still a learning process for me - all dance aspects. But I want to keep learning and learning and learning till the day i die. Because I feel dance is the one thing in my life worth sticking around for these days.

No you aren't crazy. I mean, everyone has to start somewhere. I might be put in with little kids as well, but the director might make a teens class. Just stick it out, try your hardest and look proud to be where you are.

We had to learn 3 combinations of a different dance genre - 1)Jazz 2)Hip Hop and 3)Ballet. The cast list goes up tomorrow (Monday). Wish me luck. bye. and thanks!

Hey, im kind of in the same situation, Im 20 years old and absolutely LOVE dance/dancing and especially ballet. I was never able to take lessons because my parents just didnt get it and when i got old enough to make my own decisions i thought i was too old to start. But its getting to a point where i feel like i just NEED to do this. Am i being realistic wanting to start at age 20? Or do you need to train your body since childhood to be able to move like that? any advice? please help!!

Your never too old, if you love dancing then should be able to express that! I stayed away from a dance studio for 7 years and it was the biggest mistake of my life, even though i sustained an injury meaning classical ballet is kinda out which breaks my heart, I should have gone back to others quicker now it all seems an uphill struggle until the music starts and I am dancing and i am happy, they only time during my life i am happy, it took a career change after my professional training into the medical profession and I am just bored and fed up with it, there is just no way of expression like there is through dance...
so in short to all you older people starting dance well done! You'll be great just keep working hard and dont let anyone put you off!
