I Am studying dance GCSE and 20% of the exam is choreography. it is contempary based and i have to choreograph a 3min long dance. this is quite daunting and i am really worried about it! is there any suggestions or tips anyone has? they would be greatly appreciated!

well, i don't really have any tips, cause i'm also choreographing my first piece and it also has to be three minutes long! my teacher said that we could pick what ever music we want so it can be very classical or very contemporary, so i choose the song 'ignition' which is contemporary. I love that song and so far i have found it very easy to choreograph a dance for it!!

Yeah, go with a song you love, not least because you won't be sick of hearing it for the 100th time in a row. Something that makes you move along to it. If there's more than one, make a collection and put them on a CD. Book the studio after hours, if possible, or find an open space. Play each song, and just dance to it. Go with whatever fits best.

At the end of each session be sure to write down your ideas and any steps you've decided on. Borrow a video camera, if you can, and record your progress.
