Hi,
Thanks for creating this forum. Folkloric and ethnic dance have been extremely popular for a long time now (just check dance school curricula). It is nice to have a forum and space specifically for those interested in folkloric and ethnic dance. I hope that there will be a lot of good posts.
Thanks
Brandon

| I agree that folkloric dance is fun to watch. I've never tried dancing it before but I can imagine it can be difficult. I bet it's a great workout! I've seen Ballet Folklorico performances a couple of times. It kind of reminds me of Paso Doble (the way they lift their arms). But I'm just giving my opinion- I'm not a professional dancer. |

When discussing folkloric dance let's please be careful about making generalizations about folkloric dance as if it was one single thing. Remember that what is often called "folkloric" or "ethnic" dance includes traditional dance from myriad diverse cultures from around this large planet. Some of these many dances might share some similarities; while others might shatter our preconceived notions about dance, but it is always constructive to compare and contrast.
When you post (and I hope that lots of you do post, and post often) it would be nice to let us know exactly what type of folkloric or ethnic dance you do. And if you are going to discuss folkloric or ethnic dance, please refer to specific traditions or cultures rather than making vague generalizations.
To follow my own suggestion, I will let everybody know that I am most interested in Afro-Cuban, Afro-Puerto Rican and Afro-Brazilian folkloric dance and music.
Thanks,
Brandon |
