hi :)
i too come from ballet (and modern), and where i live there's a few dance studios that offer bellydance classes. other than that i do my dvd for practice and learning.
i also just bought some practice music from amazon.com called "Sweet Fruits for Heavenly Hips With Tina Enheduanna_ Living Acoustic Percussion for Bellydanceteaching & Practice", and offers both slow and medium rhythms for the begginer level.
other than that, i think the first thing i've found out about venturing into this folk style is that there seems to be no particular structure in the way it's taught. i think it's why i've resorted to my dvd's and in talking to others online and searching on youtube to familiarize myself as best as possilbe. yet in other (european) countries it seems far more structured classes.
