Hey all, if you've got a few minutes to spare could you clarify some things for me please?...I'm 18 and about to run off to college where I'd really like to take some beginning dance classes. I don't have much experience other than what our mothers would put us in when we were just single digits...
I'd like to explore lyrical dance and modern...I've heard that dancers in these areas of course have to be physically fit and flexible but there is a bit more of room for ppl with different builds. I myself have broad shoulders and I'm not going to lie, I'm a little thick. I've played basketball all through high school, and I'm in good shape however I know dancing works completely differently than bball. This is getting long winded...Im really curious if any of you experienced dancers could tell me what I should do to prepare myself for dance and of course if there are really dancers out there that are not traditionally built. |

| if you do not look at professional classical ballet there are all different types of bodies. look at hip hop, jazz, modern, all types of bodies, and sizes and shapes. Classical ballet (from my experance) is the only type of dance that you need a certain body type to do professionally. But to just take classes, any one can do that. You'll work different parts of the body, and you'll be in even better shape then you are now after a semester of dance classes! |
