Ok long story short I danced from the age of 3 - 13, and have recently (about 7 months ago now) gone back to Ballet + Tap.

I've picked most things back up in Tap, apart from the pickup pullback, my head knows what it needs to do but it doesn't happen.

Has anyone seen any really good tutorials online for these ?

It feels as if there's too much weight on the second leg to do the second pick up and I'm thinking maybe I'm hesitating because of this, is there a trick ? Or is it just a case of keep galloping around the flat backwards until 1. I drive my neighbours insane and 2. Finally I get it :)

I used to have the same exact problem, but after this summer I finally got my double pull backs. I know you have probably heard this before but all you really have to do is relax. It is hard to but if you keep thinking that you already can do them it will work out. Just don't stress out about getting the sounds in and they will all come. But the number one thing is PRACTICE as much as you can :D

Thanks for the reply :)

I'm sure your right, I still don't have it but we've been off for Christmas so hopefully it will come with time.

I'm the same in ballet too, on my own i'm fine but as soon as we have to do things with a larger class I loose it lol confidence issue I guess.

Nevermind I'm sure I'll be backflipping pull backs whilst flying soon heh :)

It is nice to know that you decided to study tap dancing again. Actually, all you have to do is look inside your heart. You must be wondering why i said that. Well, the brain can say i want to do this but the feet does not follow. You should connect your brain, feet and heart. If your heart say i love to tap dance and really mean it, have a deep breath and do not stress yourself. Instead, put more effort and study it. If your having difficulty, do not blame yourself. It does not really help. Tell yourself i am doing this because i love tap dancing and i will do whatever it takes to achieve my goal. You should always remember to believe in yourself. Be confident! I hope it helps :D

Loosening up really is best in this situation. Once you become self conscious and stressed, there are too many things going on in your mind.

Hmm. If you're really having a hard time doing them, what I used to do was curl my toes up a little in my shoes before the pickup. Nowadays it's just a matter of having the ankles loose enough, weight on the balls of the feet, and focusing on the lightness of the movement.

If you do think that it could be linked, even in part, to confidence issues then you will probably see improvements as you begin to relax more and readjust.

Congratulations on picking your dancing back up. I'd imagine that after a break it can be hard to get back into the swing of things, but I'm sure you'll be fine.

I must congratulate you too, as it is so positive that you come back with new zeal and spirit which is really required much so, it is better to give the best shot.

Hi,

It is important to keep your body stress free and for that you have to first keep your mind out of stress and for your body it is very much needed that while dancing your body should be loose and flexible.

Thanks
