Well going to a lot of conventions is a good start. Introduce yourself to the tap teachers. Let them know you love tap and ask them if they have any advice for you. There are professional tap companies. Do some searches online, you'll find them. Also learn how to teach and choreograph. Most great tappers do both. It's helpful to have income when you're not performing. As for how you get yourself known - well you;r doing it. Tap Kids is a great program, there is also Slide, and Gregg Russell does Tap into the Network. I'm sure there are other programs like these as well. Go to as many as possible. Go to the Chicago Human Rhythm Project's summer festival. The biggest thing is to meet prominent tappers in the tap world and work on your skills. Good Luck.

[quote:5463fa8cac="danldancer517"]Okay so I'm 14 and live in South Florida & ever since i was about 4 I have been VERY interested in tap. I love it so much and am positive that it is what I want to do in life, but honestly I have no clue where to start. I go to alot of conventions and usually get scholarships for tap but that is not going to help to get me into a company or anything. I am going to tap kids in New York this summer and am SO excited for it but that is only one thing. If anyone could please help me out on where to begin my career when I graduate. Are there dance companies just for tap ? How do I begin to get myself known in the tap world ? What are some good conventions to go to so I can maybe get an internship in a couple of years or be an assistant ? Thanks for anyone that could help me with this :D[/quote:5463fa8cac] |
