Hey peoples. I've danced since I was 3 years old and I do every dance style there is(apart from folk, ballroom etc.) My dance school has never done hip hop before cos' the principal is big on ballet and technique and stuff. She started hip hop classes this year, but she did like 2 of them then got rid of them.
Ok. So my problem is I wanna try out for dance at a performing arts school, and I'm not sure what type of dancing they'll do for the audition, but I'm really freaked out that they might do hip hop, and the audition is in a couple of weeks.
How can I be able to do hip hop like, really quick??? |

Hey.
First of all welcome!
Now...as for hip-hop I took classes, and you can't just learn it quick.
Like any dance it takes practice and skills.
Honestly, try to find a dance school that DOES hip-hop, I mean don't leave your other one if you don't want to, but unleast take classes.
However, if you don't like hip-hop then don't talk classes, that's a waste of time.
All I could recommend is talk to the principal\teacher and see if they can help you or watch tutorials\dances on youtube.
Hip-hop is like popping and locking kind of, it is very loose or tight depending on what you are doing.
It all depends on the music, dancer, teacher, etc.
Good luck!
PM me if you have any questions! (: |

| Hip hip can't be done quick...it does take a lot of time. Have you talked to anyone already in the school about auditions? |

Yeah, most performing arts school focus on Ballet and Modern. So you probably don't have to worry, as a matter of fact you could go to their website and look up info about the audition. If the audition has to do with hip hop though, being trained classically, you're screwed.
Ballet dancers tend to be to stiff and go up instead of down if you understand what I mean. |

| ok , it does take time to learn this is what you should do yes taking a class would be helpful but considering you probably dont have time to do so that might not work... you need to rent movies things such as step up,stomp the yard etc... they might help you get a feel not saying they are full of the best acting but the moves that they do use are pretty beginner, next check out your local club ten to one there is someone that will drag you on the floor follow the moments the thing about hip hop is feeling the music yes you can throw just about any style dancing into hiphop so for you it will be good esp, if you have ballet background..it honestly didnt take me long to pick it up and now im really good at it. infact it is my fav. style of dancing... im sure you will do fine but be confident because hip hop is about confidence it is about showing people that you arent afraid of throwing your own style in and that you arent afraid to get alittle dirty if need be.. hope it helps!! |
