I have to practice a short combination with different jumps, but I haven't taken jazz for awhile. so, I wrote down the jumps, but I don't remember how to do all of them. If you could explain or post a video of any of these jumps, I'd appreciate it.
-sauter
-tour jete
-aerial barrel
thank you |

Hi, hope this helps. I'm far from an expert (entering three years of jazz), but I think I know most of these:
A saute is a jump starting and landing with two feet. I think you should plie first. In my class, we try doing them landing first on the toe, ball of the foot, and heel, kind of rolling on to the ground. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyoDWT6OqUA
A jete is a jump from one foot to the other foot, throwing the working leg out. One foot brushes out and jumps off the ground as the dancer lands on their other foot....this might help- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHivyA_fwpA
I'm not exactly sure what an aerial barrel is, or if it's the same as a barrel jump, but I have done barrel jumps. Start with your legs apart, one behind the other. Bring the leg in front up and around, in a turn. The other leg should follow. Both legs should be bent at the knee, almost forming 90 degree angles. I had to keep my arms straight out and bent at the elbow, but your class might do something different. Sorry that isn't the best explanation, but here is a video I found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZ-xNxq9Xtw
Good luck, have fun!! |
