Hello, I should probably give some background to the situation. I have been dancing since I was three and would like to think I had decent training, until recently. For the past few years I have been STRUGGLING beyond belief with any sort of developes, front and side in particular. I can kick high, leap, and have both of my splits (usually). I have been to physical therapy on my hip flexor hoping that would alleviate the situation, but it still has done me no good. I know, for a fact, I am using the wrong muscles to lift my leg. When I go to develop my leg by the time I reach passe I feel a gripping on the top of my thigh, and as I extend, I feel like a weight is tied to my toes forcing my leg to drop immensely.
I am lucky if I can make it past 90 degrees. I have left ballet classes in tears because I cannot do something as simple as hold my leg. It's frustrating taking the advanced classes which revolve around these types of moves. I can jump and turn, but what good is it if you cannot hold your leg in a la seconde past 45 degrees?
I reallyyy need some advice, I just want to get better at this, I've asked so many teachers and no one has been able to help me!
Sorry for the long post, thanks!

Hi!! :D I had problems with my developes too... well i couldnt hold my leg higher than 45 degrees... All of my teachers have told me that i need to rotate my leg, that you cant lift a not rotated legg over 45 degrees... but still i had no strenghth... so a pisioterapist told to do some exercises... wich consit on (im very flexible and im gessing you are too for what you said on your post) lift your legg with your hand and take it as higher as you can... and then try to take it down slowlly (the slowest the better) then youll see you get strenght and hopefully if you are like me, your legg will get higer than 45 degrees realy fast...
:D good luck |
