Well, I have been dancing at this dance school for a long time (about 5 years) and have always been one of the best in my classes. This year i was given a solo part in my troupe dance by the school's principal. Everyone thought I was going to be given the 'Student of the Year' award because of all the praise I was given. Anyway, I didn't get that award but wasn't really expecting i was going to, but she gave it to one of the worst dancers in our school for sympathy.
In the time that i've been at this school, I've only been given one trophy (which was the first year which I think i was only given for support to make me feel like I was a decent dancer). I didn't even get one of the smaller trophys this year and have been very put down.
I was thinking about cutting my classes down or changing schools, because i'm not really learning anything or being appreciated.
P.S. I forgot one of my 14 costumes at the dress rehearsal but I thought if the teacher was nice enough she wouldn't really care about it.
WHAT SHOULD I DO :?: |

The first thing to do is separate emotion from fact. Are you positive that you aren't really learning anything at your current school, or are you just saying that because you are hurt and feeling under appreciated?
From the way you made it sound, you received a trophy for encouragement and so did this girl, perhaps you should take it as a good sign that you didn't get one this year. Your school may choose to give them out to people who need some special TLC to boost their confidence and help them excel.
Clearly you are at a point where you are already doing incredibly well, so a pity trophy wouldn't do you much good.
If you really feel that you are learning nothing after your emotions have settled, then it might be time to start looking around at other schools. I would recommend sitting and having a chat with your instructor first to see what she has to say though. |
