Hello Everyone,
I am new to this forum so first I would like to introduce myself. I am a dance teacher for pretty much everything. I have danced my whole life and enjoy every minute of it.
I am going to be teaching quite a few hip-hop classes in Sept and was looking for some new ideas. I did alot of combinations last year but need a new warmup or other ideas to make the class more interesting! ANy Ideas???? I am teaching all ages so anything is good!! |

Hey StarDance
The thing I like about my hip hop teacher is that she is full of energy. Our warm up generally consists of stretches, plie's and some aerobic kind of exercises.
To be honest I don't care what the warm up is like, I always want to get on with the dancing (although I know how important it is to wam up of course). One thing that annoys me with my dance teacher though is that once we have learnt the dance, we don't dance it through in full enough times for everyone in the class to really feel it.
Good luck with the classes anyway.

| Have you tried teaching a really technical isolations piece? Those can be a lot of fun, especially with the popularization of isolations by a lot of groups on America's Best Dance Crew, such as Kaba Modern, the Jabbawockeez, Supreme Soul, and Fanny Pak. Isolations take a lot of speed control, and a popping background never hurts, so I'd suggest prefacing an isolations piece by teaching a slow RnB piece (for the speed control) and doing either a popping piece or popping drills. Hit me up if you want some advice on popping drills, I learned some from Mike Song himself. |
