Hi
I have no Idea how to dance. I have read a huge thread on your sister site (www.dance-forums.com) titled "I have no idea how to dance" and I have tried the whole hip swaying thing but for some reason that does not seem like I am doing enough. What do I do with my upper body? My Hands?
The girl I am going to the upcoming dance (2 weeks) with loves to dance and I don't want to make a fool out of myself.
Also, I attend a pretty strict school and I am not sure they will permit grinding. What would you advise me to do in the event I can't grind?
Thanks in advance |

An easy way to get started learning hip-hop is to learn routines. There are a bunch of really good ones available on youtube etc, and I'd advise you to just practice on your own. Don't perform the whole routine in public, because that's basically dancing plagarism, but learning routines will start to teach you awareness of your body, how to feel beats and other fundamentals of dance. Some videos I recommend:

And in the event you're not allowed to grind, just face her and dance. Feed off of each other's vibes, and just let each others' moves inspire your own. Most of all, though, just have fun. She'll know if you're too nervous or forced about it. Just dance and enjoy it! |

| Welcome NeedsToLearn! :D I must have missed this thread. :( I think that learning salsa is a good thing as some people have said on dance-forums.com. :) I also dance it myself and love it a lot. :D (In fact there will be a salsa congress in Gothenburg this week. :D :D :D) |
