Hi!
So I've been taking ballroom/latin for 6 months now, and I've always done hip hop on my own. But I'm finally going to begin bellydancing! From what I read on this forum, it's really great.
So, as you guys are all bellydancers, I would like to know if anyone has any words of wisdom for me. Just to let you guys know, I'm not taking private lessons, I'm taking group lessons at a community center (ballroom is costing me way too much!).
So yea, what should I wear to practice? Any helpful stretches I can do before and after class? Anything I should/shouldn't eat before class (as I will be moving my belly)?
Thanks in advance! |

If you are going to anticipate doing lots of body waves (camel), try not to eat too full or drink too much...the feeling is uncomfortable...you will feel the water and food tumbling inside the tummy.
Wear aerobic top, (bare midriff will be good, allow yourself to see your movements clearly) and a pair of sports pants or shorts should be fine.
Do warm ups. Especially the thigh regions. Cos if you are doing lots of shimmies, the thighs suffers the most.
Stretch and cool down the thigh muscles after that. For you will not want to have thunder thighs. Stretch backwards for the tummy...so that the muscles doesnt expand and causes big tummy.
Wear knee guards if you will be kneeling (floor work)....trust me, it hurts A LOT..especially if you do have bony knee caps..mine is bruised all over every time I have rehearsals for performance even with knee guards...creep |
