Hi everyone. I'm new on here and hope you can help me.

I am choreographing an amateur production of Anything Goes. The cast is very enthusiastic, but not exactly young, and only two out of about 30 have any tap. I want to them to look as accomplished as poss on stage, so have concentrated on easy steps, style, and syncopation in the routine to give the interest, rather than "flash".

However, there's a lot of music and I'm running out of ideas for simple steps. Their timing is good, and they look quite good with their trucking, step heel, spring dig (syncopated), spring toe beat hop, shim sham, tack annies, ball beats, that sort of thing, but I can't get much else. They have real problems with weight placement. They mostly can't manage a tap spring, and I'm never going to get a reasonable looking shuffle out of them. I'm having trouble with pick up time steps (single, and without the pick up !)), because of the weight placement thing - stamping the foot and bringing it back up again is a real problem for a lot of them. I have broken it down and explained where the weight is, but it's pretty difficult.

For example, what looks good on them is this sort of thing

4 springs, spring toe beat hop x 2, 3 springs, toe beat x 2 syconpated, and a stamp at the end.

Can anyone give me any ideas for some interesting combinations/rhythms based on the sort of steps they can do? Or some different steps that don't involve shuffles, taps or pick ups?

Cheers
