Hello,
I am interested have you ever auditioned, what for and what in, how did you find it? Have you got a funny audition story?
I thought maybe the ones who have auditioned a lot could give the ones who are just starting a few tips (if there is anyone interested), because sometimes it is a great experience but it is usually quite scary!
I started auditioning for plays and musicals when I was 19, before that I had only "auditioned" to get into the school I wanted to go and that was not a real audition, it was more to see where they placed me (I got directly into second year because I had taken summer courses in singing and had a lot of dancing experience).
My first audition was for "Sound of music", I was not very nervous because I was there for fun at first (and my sister was with me and we had quite some laughs), then I got a recall and I was more nervous the second time around and forgot my lines!! They still recalled me again and then they asked me to sign the contract, the day I went in they had decided to call it all off because bigger productions were coming.
Then I auditioned for about 20 publicitary spots, because I needed the money badly, but that didn't work out. Also for several ballets in several musicals and plays, I got more and more nervous and more and more desperate each time.
They directly called me for a smaller casting for Cats, they took people they had seen in other castings before and casted them again, had to do a dancing routine, sing a chorus, and do some acrobatics. The recall there went very smoothly and then they directly took me!!
I don't have a very funny story, but I can tell you a really funny one from a friend of mine.
He wanted to go to the royal ballet school in Spain and he went to the auditions, did the auditions and found them incredibly hard but he still tried really hard and in the end they called him to stay (it was a very large group and they only called him back). They asked him if he didn't think he was too young and he found that pretty strange, because he was already 16 and most people who try to get into that school are quite a bit younger. He shook his head and the woman then said he was accepted into THE ROYAL COMPANY!!
He had gone to the wrong casting!!
Now they are paying for the rest of his ballet studies (he is in 3rd year, still has a few years to go) and they have him in the company doing quite some important parts (he playes Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet).
I thought that was hilarious!

When I was 8 yrs old I auditioned for Star Search. So did Gabe. They don't have call backs there for 2nd auditions. They videotape your first audition and keep it if they're looking for someone your age and with your talent. I did a tap solo to "Reet, Petite and Gone." 8 is the youngest you can be and I didn't get called but the audition went well. My mom was not allowed to go with me to that one.
Also, when I was 8, was the first time I auditioned for AMerica's Most Talented Kids. My brother and I did tap solos...at the end of the audition they told us to come back the very next day and then we did our solos again and they videotaped us that time. The first audition my mom could watch and other people did too but the call back audition was just me, the casting director and the video person. No one else. But the season was cancelled so we didn't get to be on. That's when it was on NBC. Then a year later a producer guy called my mom at work and said that they were still interested in us if we wanted to audition again because PAX was starting up the show again. But we had to audition again. So we did and got on the show. I was 9 and Gabe was 13 when we taped our shows. It was the funnest thing in the world and I really want to do it again.
I've auditioned for my school play and stuff like that but the ones up above are the professional ones i've done.
No funny stories though, everything went great. |

The most I've ever auditioned for was a role in a production of Guys and Dolls done by a local theatre company. I went into it knowing the musical very well, so I wasn't too too nervous. The first audition went quite well and I got called back. Unfortunately, I had to turn it down because it was going to be a short-run production and I had just received my competition schedule for synchronized swimming and it conflicted with the provincial championships. *snaps fingers*
Cami, what cast were you with when you did Cats? |

I don't quite understand the question, I am sorry. Can you explain what you mean? Thank you so much,

Nope...haven't auditioned for anything.
I was going to attend a college in my area for dance and I would have had to audition for that...but its not practical for me to leave my full-time, well paying job to attend full-day classes and obtain my degree in dance when there really isn't much of a dance community in my area. |

love, Cami (who is so very happy to have found kindred spirits here online!) A relative of mine was working wardrobe for 2 1/2 years on a touring cast of Cats. She just got home around Christmas time for good. They toured North America. I was wondering if you were a member of the same cast, or of a different one. |

Oh, I see!
I was in the Madrid Cats Cast.
Madrid is unfortunately not very big in musicals, there is, unlike London or New York where there are at least 10 or 12 musicals always, maybe 3 or 4 at a time. People don't like it that much either, which makes it pretty hard to find a job!
I love living in London now, there is always so much going on!!

| No news yet but you never know. It's still to early to count it out. I don't know if PAX might eliminate them due to recently being on another PAX show. |

Guess what! I have an audition this Thursday!
Long story short... I found out about an Elite Dance Team through my local YMCA and decided to obtain more information. I ended up being offered an opportunity to try out (this Thursday) and possibly become an assistant coach.
I am insanely nervous and am just too scared to even think about it! I'm counting on my Forum friends to keep me sane and encourage me if things don't work out. I'll be sure to post as soon as I know anything. |
