I don't know what my mom memorable experience was. But how'd I get into it? Here's go:
So, I started when I was almost sixteen. I got into it because I would go to heritage festivals, parades, see them on tv on St. Patrick's Day, whatever, and I'd just be drawn to the Irish dancers. Then when I was almost sixteen, I started thinking that I wanted some sort of physical extracurricular activity because I felt like it was what my life was missing. So, I looked into what I'd want to do, and why I'd want to do it, and Irish dancing won out.
I love doing it because I feel complete. I feel in my place, and I feel like I'm glorifying God in the highest form of gratification: straight from my heart. I've always been a musician. I'm a music teacher (private piano and violin lessons), so I understood music being that way. But dancing has opened doors of communications that I knew were there but had never accessed. I feel like I belong in Irish dancing, and I feel like I have some given leanings toward it. It seems like I've known how to do it all along, I just never let myself express it. It's something special. I feel free. |
