I'm new here, and I have a question...
Last night my mom and I were working in the basement on some ballet stuff. Mostly we do barre work and stretching, and last night we did a fair amount of work across the floor. I never felt any specific time where my ankle twisted, but this morning it was slightly sore. I had my private dance lesson today, and it wasn't too high impact, but tonight my ankle still hurts. It isn't throbbing or anything; just a dull pain with more intense shoots every once in a while. I must've twisted it and not realized it.
The question is: should I give it a rest for a few days, even though it doesn't feel very serious? Or should I continue exercising--usually I either dance, do pilates, or aerobics (aerobics more than pilates)? In general I tend to deal with injuries and keep working, but I also don't want to hurt it worse...
Suggestions would be much appreciated! |

Hey,
welcome to DF!!!
And to your ankle, if it isn't swollen, the colour hasn't changed (into blueish, purplish etc...) and the pain is not bad enough to stop you from walking then it is probably just a little bit twisted, or overstretched.
I would do this: give it hot and cold baths, with your shower. Not too extremely hot (don't burn yourself), but quite hot and as cold as it goes.
And maybe take a day or two off dancing! There is also some topic anaesthetics that work quite nicely (they smell strongly of mint usually), but I wouldn't go that route if the pain is not too bad.
If it doesn't help at all, the pain gets worse or it starts swelling and changing colour go to a doctor.
You don't want to mess with injuries, that can end really badly! A stupidly twisted ankle, without healing, can turn into a nasty problem!
Hope to help, love, Cami |

Hey,
Thanks for the welcome and the advice!
No, it isn't swollen or discolored. It's better today; I just did pilates and like 20 minutes of dancing. I'll try the hot and cold thing if it hurts worse, but I think a night of rest was all it needed.
Thanks! |

| I think you should rest it just to make sure you don't hurt it any worse but you could also masage your feet and ankles to help them get better.I don't know if it would work but usually foot masages make my feet feel better after a long day of dance. :P |
