Hey all, I'm a huge techno/trance fan and I was wondering if anyone here can tell me a little bit about dancing at techno/trance clubs? I'm going to Winnipeg in August to see Max Graham spin, but I've never been to any club and I've never stepped foot on any dance floor. I'm pretty confident that I have the potential to be a decent enough dancer but I don't know how to do it.
I've seen my friends do a little bit of liquid dancing.. moving their arms and stuff and it's pretty freakin sweet, but I have no idea how to do it. I've heard that if you imagine your hands moving around an imaginary ball in the air, that's basically all it is. I've also heard that figure 8's are essential in that type of dancing, but I have no idea what a figure 8 is.
Any help would be appreciated!!! |

Welcome to the Forums, Jeembo!
I can't provide much help with the type of dancing to which you are referring as I don't know anything about it. I do, however, have a few comments...
Definatley use the visualization/imagination techniques. They work and there are entire books on this method of teaching/learning dance.
With regard to figure eights...in belly dance a figure eight is when you move your hips in the shape of the number eight. Let's see if I can explain:
-- Start standing straight with your knees slightly bent.
-- Keeping your upper body quiet (meaning not moving), push your right hip to the forward diagonal (like you're trying to reach your hip to the forward right corner of the room).
-- Scoop your right hip from the forward right corner to the back right corner. (You've just made the first part of the number 8 but flipped horizontal).
-- Slide your right hip through the center of your body pushing your left hip to the forward left diagonal. (You've just made the crossing part of the number 8 ).
-- Scoop your left hip from the forward left corner to the back left corner to complete the second part of the number 8.
-- Repeat
All the best! |

| The figure 8 I'm referring to is done completely with the arms from what I understand.. I've tried googling it but couldn't find anything. |

| My apologies... I don't have any idea how to do the figure eight with the arms. All the best with your search! |
