I THINK YOU SHOULD PUT HER IN BALLET AND JAZZ FIRST BEFORE TAP AS BALLET IS THE FOUNDATION OF ALL DANCING |

When I was four I started with the typical 1/2 hour tap and 1/2 ballet class. I absolutely loved the tap portion of the class. I liked the "ballet" portion as well, but I wouldn't have called it ballet. It was more like jumping around to fun music.
I wish I would have trained more seriously at a young age ballet. I think it would have helped me greatly in other areas. |

It's fine! I started a tap, jazz, and ballet combo class when I was 2! (This is my 11th year of dance.)
Just make sure she's doing ballet also, and when she's 4 or 5 and add hip hop, lyrical, and jazz to it she should be doing all those if you want her to get good.
Dont ever let her quit! =) its so much fun.
And definitely move her to the more professional studio. Its worth it. TRUST ME =). Been there, done that. |

Hi,
I am totally agree with you as, it is important to go for ballad first as, jazz too includes ballad so, if she go for balllad than it will be a step by step learning.
Thanks!! |

I think starting with ballet is really important since it is the foundation of all dancing, but that doesn't mean that you can't have her do both. If classes don't overlap and you can afford it, you could put her in ballet for the foundation and in tap as well to see how she does.
You do want to be careful not to overdo it though of course |

It is not necessary that you have to above 18 years to learn any dance form, as you can learn in any age as, it is good that your child is learning Tap at this age, you must encourage her for every dance form as it is very necessary.
My daughter took a combination class last year for the first time. She began dancing at age 2, but I wouldn't call it dance. It was a lot of singing and standing in one place. I want to move her to a more professional school but I do not know which type of dance to concentrate on.They have ballet, tap, jazz and hip hop seperately for 45 minutes. This studio also has a competition team. I saw the younger age competition team and they were great! I just don't know which discipline to concentrate on and if she should just start off with ballet and tap or ballet and jazz. Any opinions are appreciated.
I think dancing at the age of 2years is really impossible that to tap dance or something.I think at the age of two they just learn how to walk and run and at that time it is really not good to pressure them to dance it is good if we start it from the age of 3-5years. |

I wouldn't go so far as to say that they can't dance. At age two children are already very mobile and active... She may not learn form and skill related moves, but I'm sure she'd enjoy herself.
Kids love music, "dancing" (jumping around) and noise, especially if they can make the noise so tap would probably be popular with kids. I still think ballet is important for foundation purposes though. |

Hi,
I do think the same tap is a best start for kids at the age of 2 or 3 and for the kids who are 3 and above can be easily push for ballet as they can learn it easily.
Thanks

Obviously ballet is the basis of all dance, and gives a strong core. But ballet for some kids is boring. Perservere! It's important, but let her do tap too, it's fun! Tap helps develop good math skills IMO.
My youngest started jazz/ballet combination class (30 mins) and tap (45 mins) the year she turned 3, so she was 2y 7 months whenshe started tap. She coped with both and did well. |

| Like others have said, take ballet first. But take tap as a secondary style. Tap is a release. I started tap when I was three and didn't start ballet until I was 4 and a half. Tap has given me the passion for dancing that I still have today. |
